You could also imagine a world inside each candle where inside the candle on the otherside of the portal would seem and ordinary candle with the real world inside it and the portal would be the flame. Sense the flame consumes the air around it then that would mean the air wich can go everywhere will be used up my the candle. It would make sense them if you had a seemingly ordinary candle in the real world the flame would be a portal to another world on the otherside and thus in that would this world would be inside the same candle from a different side; a candle that is inside that world. A candle could bridge to other world depending on the candle and how it was burned and you could escape there depanding on what it was.
